You wouldn’t buy a house without checking it out first, so why would you do the same with a car? Bizarrely this still seems to be common practice when keys switch hands. Here at 360 Autoleasing Leicestershire we want to ensure the best service when delivering your vehicle. So, to help you not get caught out we have compiled a number of points you should be on the lookout for, and consider before you sign anything when leasing a car:
New cars usually come with a ‘delivery mileage’. Which means it’s likely to have been through a testing period before reaching you. However, upon receiving your new car there should be less than 100 miles on the clock, if it is any higher, make sure you query it!
Always ensure to make careful checks of the vehicle’s interior. This includes checking for marks and scruffs which can occur when people climb in and out of the vehicle. Note any damage down and take photographs to document your findings. This ensures you have proof that it was delivered to you in that condition if questioned. Also ensure that all light fittings are stable and that all electrics are in working order. Finally, check the brakes and headlights to ensure these work too.
Always check your paperwork, make sure the agreed price is correct as well as the invoice information. Ensure you are provided with the vehicle service book and handbook and are completely satisfied with the car before you sign anything.
Just as you would when checking the interior, make sure to observe the outside of the vehicle closely and take pictures of any scratches or dents. Check the wheel arch and alloys for scuffs or curb damage then move on to the window screen and check for any chips or cracks. Finally check the paintwork and the tyres to ensure these aren’t worn or cracked. (This is unlikely with a new car, but better to be safe than sorry!)
